How do we proceed?

Hello everybody,
I hope you are all healthy and you are well, according to the circumstances in the current state of crisis.
After we had interrupted our work here some time ago to wait for the rulebook committee, we should get back to work and finish what we started. I think we have already discussed many good and reasonable things and made adjustments that should definitely not be lost. Certainly some changes in the rulebook will require new adaptations and we should check everything for consistency once again. I think we should use the current time of (sportive) lockdown to finish the started changes so that the revised guidelines are available for upcoming competitions.
Cheers,
Jan

Thank you Jan! I hope you are well too.
I agree that we should definitely go on here and finish it up. Rulebook 2019 is published a while now.

Thank you Jan for trying to get us back on track. Mostly I blame myself as committee chair that work on the World Record Guidelines has come to a stop. It just got 'snowed under'. Waiting for the IUF (Competition) Rulebook was at most a contributing factor.
I have several issuesto be discussed and possibly changed. Some of them date back from the time we worked on the Guidelines, some have come up since then.
I will try and collect those issues (they are in different places and formats), and start posting about them them in the next few days.
By the way, I could temporarily not safely log in to this site, as the security certificate had expired. That explains my somewhat late response. Robin Dunlop has now fixed the issue at my request.
Mirjam, what is New mailCop?
Comment
New mailCop? No idea, I'm sorry!
Comment
Mirjam, it seems that not only "New mailCopy", but the last two lines (What do you want to do ?, and New mailCopy) are somehow added automatically, probably by the software you use.
Comment
Hmm, I don't see anything. But I'm still using the same software as a year ago. Sorry...

Sorry to be late to the party. Klaas pointed out to me that the WR committee had restarted, but my rulebook emails go into a separate inbox so I didn't see it.
Hope you're all safe and well. I've been busy during the pandemic but am taking a 5 day holiday tomorrow so will have limited internet. I'll try to contribute before I fly out.

After one year I try again to bring some energy into the project "Update of the WRG" :D
I hope you are all well and have overcome the pandemic well so far. I think it would be good if we could finish the WRG soon, before next year hopefully not only the Unicon but also many other competitions can take place again. In Germany, for example, we would like to bring the rules for the German records in line with the WRG - but as long as the new version is not final, the whole thing is quite difficult. In the current season probably no big national competitions will take place, so it would be even more important to me that the rules are fixed for the coming season ands competitions after the pandemic.

Jan, thank you very much for your attempt to re-start the WR Committee and finalise the update of the WR Guidelines. I totally support it. This issue has been in the back of my mind all the time, but got overtaken by other priorities.
I have to sort out my notes on several of the pending discussions and proposals, and re-read the material we already have. I will seriously try to do that this coming week.
I hope that all committee members are prepared for a next/final round of discussing and voting, so that our proposed WR Guidelines document will soon be ready.
Comment
Yes I agree, it would be good to have it in time for next year's Unicon.
Will keep an eye on my mailbox of any voting discussion.
Comment
As I wrote elsewhere today, I am essentially unavailable until 3 October.
After that date, I hope we can soon get a number of proposals into voting.
It worries me that we have only a few participants left in the discussions. Let's see if the other members come back to vote, once the voting is on. If not, I think we must exclude those that don't respond so that they don't invalidate the voting process, and vote again with just the active members. A similar procedure has been done in the Rulebook, a few years ago.
I 'talk' to all of you later (that is, early October)!

This week, I heard that after some delay, the IUF Rulebook Committee 2022 is being set up. This is the first Rulebook Committee since 2018.
There are many world records that depend on the Rulebook. We (the World Record Committee) have discussed quite a few rule changes that we "need" to firm up the world records. Therefore I think it is important that some of the WRC members will also serve on the Rulebook Committee, to explain and advocate the rule changes that we want. This would be for the Main Committee, and also for the sub committees Track, Road and Jumps.
Connie Cotter sent out an invitation to me, and possibly to some others in the World Record Committee, to apply for a membership of the Rulebook Committee. Even if you didn't get such an invitation, I believe it is still possible to apply. The text of Connie's e-mail containing the Sign Up link:
Hello Unicyclist,
After every Unicon, a new IUF Rulebook Committee is created. This committee works to develop the next version of the IUF Rulebook. If you wish to join the 2022/23 rulebook committee, this message is for you.
The rulebook committee will be divided in sub-committees by discipline; muni, hockey, race, track, etc. Inside each committee, knowledgeable people will submit proposals to edit, remove or add new rules. As these rules pass, they will be sent to the main committee where they will be approved, edited or sent back to the sub-committee.
If you are interested to join the 2022/23 IUF Rulebook Committee, please fill out the form with the link below.

I hope to "meet" some of you there!

After some time of reflection, I have just sent my candidature for the road racing subcommittee as voting member.
I've been working on several unicycle projects this year, but I would like to take part in the discussions concerning my discipline, especially since I have some proposals.
Did you submit any candidatures for these committees?
See you soon!
Simon

I myself applied for Road, Track, Jumps and General Committee, all of them as voting member. I haven't heard from any others. Incidentally, I was planning to send en e-mail today to draw attention to the Rulebook Committee application process.

I am also registered in the Rulebook Committee - I have registered for the Main Committee, Track, Freestyle, X-Style and Age Groups. But I would also be open to participate in others.

Announcement: new World Record Committee Chairperson
Dear committee members,
A few months ago, I decided, with some pain in my heart, that I wanted to resign from the World Record Committee, both as chairman and as member. Although health issues triggered this decision, the main reason is that I had too much "volunteer" work on my plate, both in unicycling and in other fields.
One of the things that really suffered from this is the progress in this committee on reviewing and updating the WR Guidelines. Sure, we have made good progress, but not nearly as much or as quickly as I had initially envisaged.
I have approached Jan Vocke, long-time member of this committee and probably the most active and committed one, and he agreed to taking over the chairperson role from me. Indeed, Jan has been accepted by the IUF Board as the new chair of the WRC, and my resignation has been accepted as well, so this change is already effective.
I am fully confident that Jan will do a great job in this position. Thanks to all of you for your contributions in the seven years that I have been chairperson.
Keep up the good work!
Best regards, Klaas
P.S. For some time to come, I will continue to have access to this discussion platform. Although I have no formal role anymore, I'll be glad to assist if anything arises that I can help with, based on my knowledge and experience of the past years. Access to the actual discussions and proposals may of course help with that.

Hi everyone,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Klaas for all the hard work he has put into the World Record Committee and the many things he has put in place that I think are very important - thank you very much for that.
In the Rulebook Committee, some of the things that came out of the WR Committee have already been discussed and shaped into new rules - yes, there is still a lot of work to be done and I hope that the World Record Committee will continue this work in the next months and possibly finalize it together with a Rulebook Committee after the upcoming Unicon. I am definitely looking forward to the new challenges as World Record Committee chariman.
As the Unicon is just around the corner, I think that many people - myself included - will not have much time to actively discuss here in the committee in the upcoming weeks. But I hope that after the Unicon there will be a lively participation in the discussions again and that we can move things forward.
Cheers,
Jan

Hi everyone,
As already announced, I would like to bring this committee back to life and complete the changes that have been started. I would therefore ask everyone to let me know whether they are still interested in working on this committee or not.
Among other things, it would be important for future votes that there are not too many inactive members on the committee so that the votes do not fail simply because there is too little participation. At the same time, of course, it should also be ensured that an appropriate number of opinions and views are represented on the committee to enable a meaningful discussion.
Cheers,
Jan

Me too. I am also do a lot more stuff with GWR which may be of assistance to us in understanding their take on records. Roger

I have announced that I would withdraw both from the chairman position, and as a member of this team. Also I have suggested that I would keep access to this platform for some time to come, in cases where my experience could be of help.
To combine these two ideas in one solution, maybe it is an idea if I become a non-voting member. That way, it doesn't hurt if I don't vote (Jan's concern about too few voters), while I still have access. I could also still contribute to discussions if I (or anyone of you) think it's worthwhile.
If Jan agrees, he could change my status to non-voting.
Comment
I chaired the first committee, and I'm still interested in world records, so count me in!
Klaas, I know you're keen to step back from doing too much volunteer work, but if you have access and read the discussions, then your vote will still be valuable. Please consider staying on as a voting member!

Comment
Ken, my thinking in becoming a non-voting member was that if I see fit, I can still mingle in the discussion and make suggestions. But if I don't have time or opportunity, the voting process won't fail because of my non-participation. Also, as a voting member I would feel obliged to participate more actively than I currently want. If at some point I would want to become voting member again, then technically this is an easy change to make.

As not many people have responded here, I will contact all those who have not responded personally. I think it would be good if more than five people took part in the discussions.
Thanks to everyone who has responded :)
