Proposal 37: Adjustment of 6.2 Time Trials specific Documentation Criteria, paragraph 1 - definition of measuring line [ Revision 2 ]

Committee: Review and Update the Guidelines
Submitted on 2025-11-10
Status: Review from November 17, 2025 to November 20, 2025

Background

The reason for this adjustment is to standardize the official measuring line for all our records, ensuring that a course approved for a 10 km road race is also approved for a 10 km time trial. In accordance with the measurement line used in athletics for tracks or road courses, the measurement line is set at a distance of 30 cm from the inner edge of the course.

Proposal

Old Rule (as approved in proposal 25):

6.2 Time Trails specific Documentation Criteria

1. The course must be a circuit, with distance taken from the inner perimeter of the track, accurate to 0.01m. A measurement report from a registered surveyor must be submitted as evidence of circuit size. If the track is a bicycle velodrome any certification by a national bicycle federation or higher is permitted. If the track is a 400 m athletics track evidence of the track size should be submitted according to Section 3.2 paragraph 1. For fixed distance Time Trail Records, the start and finish are usually not at the same place. The position of the start and finish must be measured accordingly and stated in the measurement protocol.

New Rule:

6.2 Time Trials specific Documentation Criteria

1. The course must be a circuit. The official measuring line is 30 cm from the inner perimeter of the course. The course length must be measured with a resolution of 0.01 m. A measurement report must be submitted as evidence of the course length. The measurement must be carried out by a registered surveyor or an officially certified course measurer. If the course is a bicycle velodrome any certification by a national bicycle federation or higher is permitted. If the course is a 400 m athletics track evidence of the course length should be submitted according to Section 3.2 paragraph 1. For fixed distance Time Trial Records, the start and finish are usually not at the same place. The position of the start and finish must be measured accordingly and stated in the measurement protocol.
