In order to have a complete overview of the documentation criteria, I have now created a proposal for each discipline with the discipline-specific criteria, which should supplement section 2 of the general documentation criteria.

For the proposed documentation criteria, I was mainly guided by the IUF Rulebook. From my point of view, the following points remain open:

  1. The current IUF rules require electronic false start monitoring for all disciplines at the Unicon (including 800 m!) - this would mean that records can only be set in races with a staggered start. This contradicts what we discussed in the other discussion. In principle, however, I would be in favor of a staggered start and thus electronic false start monitoring in the 800 m being mandatory for world records. This would definitely increase the comparability of performances.
  2. Do we need to specify the resolution with which the length measurements must be submitted?
  3. Do we need to specify that the track measurement, if there is no certification by a national athletics federation or higher must be done by an official surveyor?
  4. Do we need to include a tolerance/accuracy for the time measurement? The rulebook right now requires a Fully Automatic Timing and Photo Finish System which produces at least 100 frames per second, but does not explicitly mention the accuracy of the system.

Comment

  1. I agree with you that also in 800m we should have the staggered start for world records.
  2. see comment in the other discussion
  3. Would probably be a good idea to integrate that.
  4. see comment in the other discussion

Comment

No changes are necessary with regard to 1. and 2. if everyone agrees. If anyone disagrees, please let us know.

To 3. I would add "In the latter case, a measurement report from a registered surveyor must be submitted." to paragraph 3.

To 4. I would cange the first sentence of paragraph 2. into "Proof must be submitted that the timekeeping was carried out using a photo finish system that records at least 1000 images per second and complies with the requirements of the IUF Rulebook (section 2D.8)."

Are there any further comments on this proposal, or would everyone agree with the proposed rules?

Comment

General comment, not only for this discussion: you may want to leave out specific references to the Rulebook such as section 2D.8. The rulebook is prone to revisions including renumbering of sections.

Comment

If both documents are set in LaTex (the Rulebook is already set in LaTEx), it would be no problem to reference the other document directly in the source code - after an update of the Rulebook, the WRG would only have to be reset once and all references would be updated and correspond to those in the Rulebook again. It would therefore be technically feasible to keep the references consistent almost automatically. Of course, we could still decide to simply leave them out completely.

Comment

Are there any further comments on the proposal, or is everyone in agreement?

I would leave the references to the specific rulebook chapters in for now - if we decide to remove all specific references at the very end of the WRG revision, we can do this as part of an editorial update.

Comment

I have just noticed that paragraph one, sentence one is not entirely clear - it could be understood to mean that all track racing disciplines can also be set up in an indoor athletics venue. However, this is only the case for 50m One Foot and 30m Wheel Walk. I have therefore changed the first sentence as follows:

"All Track Racing Discipline records are set on a standard athletics competition track, except for the 50m One Foot and the 30m Wheel Walk, which can also be set in an indoor athletics venue."

I hope that everyone still agrees with the proposal.

Comment

As there were no further comments, I assume that everyone agrees with the proposal and would agree to it.
